Wade Nyberg, President 2010-2011
July 2010
The Young Lawyers Section is coming off a banner year, and is
looking forward to another year of accomplishment.
The Hagemann-Morris Mentor Coin Project has taken the State Bar by storm. Bob Morris and Sarah Theophilus spent countless hours developing the project, and they
crisscrossed the state to publicize it.
Every circuit had a reception to
introduce the project and to
allow young and veteran attorneys to meet each other. The Young Lawyers
Section, our Board, and the entire State Bar owe a debt of gratitude to these two for their leadership and service.
Our Board is committed to continuing the success of the Mentor Coin's first year. Thanks are in order for all those signed up to mentor a young lawyer. If you are a veteran lawyer, i.e. in practice for more than ten years, please consider signing up to be a mentor if you haven't already. You can contact me to get the forms, or you will soon be able to get them from the state bar's new and
improving website.
I would be remiss if I did not use this chance to thank and commend Tom
Barnett, DeeAnn Stevens, Larry
Zastrow, Anita Zastrow, and Nicole Ogan. They organized and hosted a
spectacular bar convention this year. The new format looks to be a winner, as I have heard nothing but positive
comments from my colleagues. Thanks also to Bob Morris, Dick Casey, and the bar commissioners for their leadership on enacting this change.
Lastly, I'd like to put in a plug for the Young Lawyers -- South Dakota Bar group on facebook. If you are a young lawyer on facebook, please join our group. As a member of the group, you gain access to discussion boards, news and links of
interest, and announcements of
upcoming functions. And if that doesn't entice you, join because all the cool kids are doing it.
Thanks for reading!
Sincerely,

Wade Nyberg
